Ice Shelves

Ancient ice shelf breaks free from Canadian Arctic

Ancient ice shelf breaks free from Canadian Arctic is about the Ayles Ice Shelf near the coast of Ellesmere Island which has broken off and is now floating freely in the ocean. This ice shelf broke clear 16 months ago from the coast of Ellesmere Island but no one was present to see it in Canada's remote north. Scientists have been monitoring the ice using satellite images, and later noticed that it became an ice island. The change took just an hour and left a trail of icy boulders floating in its wake.
